The 2009 Husaberg FE570

Being Converted to a Rally Bike

The above picture is the "Before" Pic.

I decided to race the 2013 Mexican 1000, a 4-Day navigational rally that races the entire Baja peninsula from Mexicali (in the north) to San Jose del Cabo (in the south). I originally planned to race my 2011 Husaberg, but found this bike for sale in Arizona for a good price and decided to buy it and convert it to a full Rally Raid race bike.

The conversion involves adding front and rear Safari tanks (for additional fuel capacity), rally fairing system, low rally exhaust system, electronic roadbook and ICO odometer, suspension modifications, rally skid plate, and a whole lot more!

Since I'm on the road for business most of the time, I was extremely pleased to be able to convince Les Martin (from Boulder City, NV) to become my race mechanic to take care of the conversion - it's a long and tedious process!

The following few pics were taken after obtaining the Safari tanks and rally fairing, just to see how everything was going to eventually fit together...

Next was the process to strip the bike down, and basically rebuild from the frame up.

Stripping the bike down...

Decided to rebuild the top end - new piston and rings; ported and polished!

Installed new silicone hoses...

To connect to new larger, high-flow radiators...

Custom fabricated to fit the Husaberg's 70 degree engine design...

Got to have some bright lights - dual Rigid LEDs...

Various pieces and parts...

Everything starts getting re-assembled...

I turns out the original rear Safari tank that I purchased wouldn't work out quite right, so sourced a low rally pipe and used rear Safari tank from Australia (and actually used in a Dakr Rally)...

The rally low pipe takes some additional fabrication to work with the planned rally skid plate (which also takes some custom fabrication to extend it to protect the low pipe)...

This is so cool!

Les Martin's custom suspension modifications (M-Power)!

Scott's stabilizer and BRP triple clamps...

The MD electronic roadbook and ICO odometer...

Both the roadbook and ICO are controlled from handlebar switches and buttons...

It takes just a little bit of wiring to make everything work...

Finishing up the wiring...

Needed to shorten the exhaust can...

Welding in the O2 sensor...

Eventually, it was time for a test ride to dial in suspension...

But there's still work to do!

Need some custom fabrication to get the four different fuel tanks connected...

And it's time for graphics!

From this...

To this!!!

Final cockpit configuration...

The graphics were amazing...

Finally, it's ready to go racing!
