The Heritage Classic Ride Day 3 - July 21, 2007 We decided to take it easy this morning. We walked downtown and ate a great breakfast at a sidewalk cafe called the Tupelo Honey Cafe. We then walked over to the Asheville Civic Center, and spent a few hours walking through the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands, a folk art and craft fair with the works of local Southern Appalachian artists. By late morning, we were anxious to go for a ride, and decided to explore the Blue Ridge Parkway northeast of Asheville. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway that extends from the Great Smoky Mountains in east North Carolina to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. It's a very scenic road, and provides plenty of overlook areas in which to stop and admire the views of the surrounding mountains and countryside.
We took the Blue Ridge Parkway as far north as Linville Falls, and then turned south onto Hwy 221,which is a beautiful country road. Just north of Marion, we took Hwy 70 west back to Asheville.
Back in Asheville, we cleaned up and headed to the Jack of the Wood Celtic Pub for dinner and some live music. Tomorrow we leave Asheville, looking for more twisty roads on our way to Helen, GA. |
