Moab - October 2012

Day 2

On Day 2, we're hitting the famed White Rim Trail...

To get to the start of the White Rim Trail, we took the Gemini Bridges Trail. The start of the trail is off of Hwy 191, about 10 miles north of Moab. The trail quickly turns quite rocky (and in the early morning we were heading directly into the sun), so it gets just a bit tricky. You come to the Gemini Bridges parking area after about 8 miles. It's a walk of about 200+ yards to see the Gemini Bridge arches (that you can walk upon).

Re-grouping at the Gemini Bridges parking area

From Gemini Bridges, it's some fairly smooth dirt roads due west to Hwy 313, a few hundred yards of pavement, and then onto Mineral Bottom Road. Then it's another 13 miles of smooth dirt roads to a set of steep switchbacks that descend to the Green River and the start of the White Rim Trail.

Here I am heading down the switchbacks

When Bill got slowed down by a broken foot peg, Ben took advantage of the time with a quick siesta...

Not a bad spot to take a rest...
