Moab - October 2012 Day 3 On Day 3, we're off the Hurrah Pass and Chicken Corners...
Joel,
Ersin, John, Ben and I decided to ride Hurrah Pass to Chicken Corners on
Wednesday. Ersin and I will not make any mention at all about how Joel, Ben, and
John could get lost in the first 50 yards of the ride leaving from the
campground in downtown Moab.
Here's a video of part of the day's ride

Chicken
Corners is named for a spot where you need to ride between some large boulders
and a big drop-off. No problem at all on motorcycles, but for jeeps or trucks
they might get a little pucker factor.

The
trail continues for about a mile or so after Chicken Corners, and then ends at a
large turn-around area - it's the end of the trail - but a beautiful spot to
stop and eat lunch. Just across the river is Thelma and Louise Point (from the
movie). There is a very narrow trail that heads around the cliff to what I call
the real Chicken Corner, but I didn't get a photo of that.

After
lunch, we head back the way we came...
Almost
back to the pavement, Ben and Joel decided to head back to camp. Ersin, John,
and I decided to check out Kane Creek Road (Hint: It's not much of a road). This
quickly became some of the most technical riding of the entire week. We made it
about 5 miles in before taking a break, and then heading back. Lack of fuel was
our excuse for not not going further, but we were pretty spent doing this late
in the afternoon sun and heat. Ersin continued to show some great riding skills
on the 990 through some really technical areas, including rock steps up and
down. A pic of me and the Berg At our break, Ersin is taking
advantage of the only shade around behind the rock. John decided keeping his
helmet on - it was cooler than having the sun beat down on his head.
We got
back to camp, and John fixed a great chicken dinner in the dutch oven...
And another good day's riding was done...
